What you'll learn
By completing the course, participants will:
Explain the formation and movement of solar system objects, and how this leads to observables from Earth
Describe how we detect and study exoplanets, and how we might detect life on them
Explain the structure of stars, the stellar lifecycle and stellar deaths including: planetary nebulae, supernovae, neutron stars and black holes
Explain the structure of galaxies, how they formed and how they change with time
Explain key topics in our understanding of the Universe like relativity, dark matter, dark energy, the Big Bang
Describe observational techniques, data types and analyses used in astronomy research, and demonstrate a basic understanding of how to implement them
This micro-credential will appeal to Year 11-12 students looking to expand their understanding of astronomy and astrophysics. It will provide a broad understanding of the key topics in astronomy, and lay the solid foundations for further university-level study in physics and astronomy.

- including a combination of on-line recorded lectures, drop-in question sessions, assessments and assessment preparation
